A Newsweek article in February 2004 revealed as UN inspectors scoured Iraq in search of weapons of mass destruction, the country’s ruthless dictator, Saddam Hussein was hard at work - on his second novel. The Iraqi National Theater was planning to turn his first novel (Zabibah and the King) into a hit musical, the country’s biggest-ever stage production.

Believing that the only “failure of imagination,” was in the 9/11 Commission’s findings, Saddamn The Musical takes you to Baghdad and Washington during the months before and after September 11, 2001. A

Discover Saddam at his pinnacle of arrogance; a supreme ruler, who no longer gets the same kicks from unlimited access to wealth, drugs and torture. So he begins to explore his creative side. With no nuclear weapons program, no connection to Osama Bin Laden, and a compulsive need to turn his first novel into a musical, we see a side of Saddam that few have dared to portray. Using extensive research seldom mentioned in mainstream news, Saddamn The Musical entertains and evolves while connecting the dots in a sometimes shocking, sometimes poignant way.

Book, Music & Lyrics by Mitch Kess
